91. no more (not …any more), no longer(not …any longer)

no more: (not …any more) 表示在数量和程度上没有更多;表示做某事的次数不再增加,多与瞬间动词连用,“与……同样不” “不再”

This book is no more interesting than that one. I don’t have a good expression of the place, so I will no more go there/ I won’t go there any more.

no longer(not …any longer):通常用在持续性的动词前,表示“过去曾…,但现在再也不……”;指时间上不再拖延 As he has an urgent task, he can no longer stay here/ he can’t stay here any longer.

92. fairly, quite, rather, pretty

fairly: “还行,相当”,语气弱,用于褒义场合 She dances fairly well.

quite: “相当””十分”,语气强 The film is quite good.

rather: “相当”,语气重,为中性词,多用于贬义场合;The film is rather difficult to understand.

pretty: “相当”,口语中常用,大多数情况下不用于书面英语 He plays the game pretty well.

注意:

1.not quite意思为‘ 不完全是那样的',表示部分否定

2.只有rather可以可too连用 This book is rather too easy to read.

3.quite/rather都可以用在冠词前面,也可以和动词连用,quite a nice day, rather like sb, 但是   pretty/fairy不能这样用

4.pretty well意思是almost

93. so he does, so does he

两人对话在谈论某人或某事时,B对A的说法表示赞同,两句话的主语指同一人或事时,用正语序so he is/has/does/will/can,否定句中用so he isn’t/hasn’t/doesn’t/can’t/won’t等

A:He likes swimming. B: So he does.

A: He can’t dance well. B: So he can’t.

若某人的情况适合于另一人时,则主谓要倒装,肯定句用so,否定句用neither、nor

She likes oranges, and so does he.

He has a car, and so have I. He can’t speak Greek, and neither/nor can I.

94. 用替代词so 还是not

1.替代词so可以跟在某些词,如think, hope, believe, expect, imagine, suppose等之后,替代肯定结构的that从句,避免重复

2.替代词not用法与so相似,但只能替代否定结构的that从句

3.think so, believe so, expect so, suppose so等变为否定式有两种方法:可用动词的否定结构,如I don't think/believe/expect/suppose so ,或用not 代替so,如I think/believe/expect/suppose not. 但与hope/afraid等连用时,只能说I hope/am afraid not/so, 不能出现否定转移。

95. applaud, clap, commend, praise

applaud v.鼓掌,赞扬,指因精湛表演或某种行为得到别人的赞许,大声叫好热烈鼓掌。The boss applauded my efforts by praising my work

clap v.拍打,其用法是clap one's hand=applaud,不能说applaud one's hands。clap sb.为某人鼓掌,clap sth. 拍打某物

commend v.为正式用词,用于对具体功绩或成就表示嘉奖,通常指上级对下级、长辈对 晚辈的赞赏。例句The teacher commended the student for doing well on the exam.

praise v.为一般用词,用于对某人的优秀品质表示钦佩羡慕;赞颂,赞美。例句A: supervisor praised the employee for her good work.

96. area, district, region, vicinity, zone

这一组名词都有"区域"的意思。 

area n.泛指面积较大的地区;面积;专业领域。例句The New York area has high rents. 

district n.行政区划的小范围地区。如Xicheng district北京西城区 

region n.行政区划上更大的地区,如"自治区";身体部位。 例句 The northeast region of the USA includes New York and the six New England states. 

vicinity n.周围地区,附近地区。 例句The police were alerted that the escaped criminal might be in the vicinity.警察都十分警惕因为逃跑的罪犯就藏在附近地区。

zone n.指特定的地方、地带。

例句The city passed a law to create a business zone on some empty land.市政府通过法律, 在一些空地上开辟商业区。

97. average, common, general, universal, usual

这一组形容词都有"普通"的意思。 

average a.普通的,一般的,它强调的是一般水准或普通水准;通常在有数字出现的情况下,表示"平均的"。 例句The average runner can run 2 miles in fifteen minutes.

common a.常见的,普通的,不足为奇的,有时引申为"平凡的",强调事物的共同性。另外,它还有"公共的,共同的"之意。 例句Car accidents are a common occurrence.交通事故是很普通的事件。 

general a.普通的,一般的,表示涉及到各方面,强调整体性而非个别和例外,该词的反义词为particular。 例句In general, the economy is doing well now.

universal a.普遍的,比general语气更强,有“全然没有例外”的意思。 例句Poverty is a universal problem all over the world.

usual a.通常的,惯常的,强调"习惯性的,符合规章制度的",是个一般用语。

98. conserve, reserve, preserve

这三个词都有“保存、保护“之意。

conserve 保存,保藏;节约 We should conserve natural resources for our future generations.

reserve 保留、储备,强调为某一特殊目的, 如 reserve gold/ coal/ food;预订, 如 reserve a seat/ table/ room

preserve 保护、维持、保养,强调完好保存,不变坏。如 preserve milk in a fridge

99. concentrate, focus

这三个词都有“集中 “之意。

concentrate 集中(精力),后跟抽象或具体名词。如 concentrate one’s mind/oneself on sth; sb be concentrate on sth

focus (把注意力)集中于((干)某事物), 使光/热/声波等聚焦于,宾语一般不是具体东西,如 focus one’s attention on sth, focus light on the glass

100. eliminate, dispose,erase,exclude

eliminate 有“排除,消除,根除之意“, 如eliminate toxins from intestine,eliminate poverty等

dispose (of)有“处理、处置、除掉“之意。如 dispose waste water/rubbish

erase (有意识)除去、擦掉(字迹/声音等)如 erase the words on the blackboard

exclude 排斥/除,与 include 为反义词,如There are five people here excluding me.
